“FOR THE MOON”
Samantha Bowin Visual Arts Thesis • Ildiko Butler Gallery at Fordham University
“For the Moon” reflects the boundlessness of a child’s imagination. It highlights children’s abilities to create imaginary worlds as a means to make the best of challenging or difficult situations. Through creating this project, it became my goal to remind us that this sense of child-like wonder is a quality that we should hold on to throughout our adult years. As we age, we are often taught that dreaming and thinking in this way is ‘childish’ and that it presents us with unrealistic or naive expectations of the world. On the contrary, I firmly believe that dreaming childishly, ambitiously, and powerfully is what pushes us to live our lives to the fullest, gives us the ability to persevere and navigate difficult life experiences, and paves the way for great change.
